April 29, 2008 Troop Meeting

We will be meeting at the Riley Wilderness Park at 6:30 p.m. We will be completing one of the First-Class requirements to complete an orienteering course that covers at least 1 mile and requires measuring the height and/or width of designated items (tree, Tower, Canyon, ditch, etc.). Please be there at 6:30 p.m. with the following items:
  • full BSA approved uniform (shirt, pants or shorts, belt and socks) - the approved activity T-shirt is fine for this outdoor activity;
  • Boy Scout Handbook (review pages 66-74);
  • compass; and
  • 10 Essentials (p. 224 of the BSA Handbook).
We will provide the maps. Your Scout will be brought home by 8:30 p.m.

Worldwide Leadership Training on Scouting

Aaronic Priesthood and Scouting Satellite Broadcast for Adult Leaders

An Aaronic Priesthood and Scouting training meeting was broadcast over the Church satellite system on May 12, 2007. The proceedings of that meeting are available in multiple formats for the benefit of bishops, Young Men presidencies, Scouting leaders, and others with responsibility for the young men of the Church.

There is a great online video of the general authorities discussing the relationship between Scouting in the church. For example, Elder Oaks made the following points:
  • focus is not on achievements, it is focused on becoming
  • served not entertain
  • be aware of the overlap between the church and Scouting
  • focus on the spiritual
  • integrate the spiritual and to Scouting
There is much more than the above and I highly recommend that all Scout Leaders review this video.
